Congratulations Chris and commiserations Chris, Luxon and Hipkins respectively.
We have a new Prime Minister (or we will have when he is sworn in by the Governor General) and a new government as a result of the election last night.
The final makeup of that government will not be known until the counting of all votes is completed, with over 500,000 special votes still to be counted. But no matter what the makeup we will have a new government.
Labour lost and lost abysmally. I know that the old saying goes that you should be gracious in defeat and also when winning but any feelings of being gracious for me stopped when I looked back on the record of the Labour government just defeated.
Chris Hipkins and his predecessor Jacinda Ardern and their government have done more damage to our country with their failed policies and their introduction of race based legislation than any other government in NZ history.
They promised to give us the most open and transparent government we had ever had when they first took office in 2017 and since then all we have got has been a diet of hidden agendas and obfuscation culminating in a division of our population on the basis of ethnicity.
As a result it is my firm belief that the country has rejected them at the election giving them their biggest turnaround defeat ever.
In his first speech at their National Party campaign headquarters after the results made it obvious that the government would change, Chris Luxon our new Prime Minister in waiting told his audience that the country had voted for change and that he was going to follow up on that desire for change.
He said: "We will make this an even better country."
"Tomorrow morning, New Zealanders are going to wake up to not only a new day, but the promise of a new government and a new direction," the incoming PM said.
"You have given us the mandate to take New Zealand forward."
"I am immensely proud to say that on the numbers tonight, National will be in a position to lead the next Government. And my pledge to you is that National will deliver for every New Zealander.
"We will bring down the cost of living, we will restore law and order, we will deliver better healthcare and we will educate our children so they can grow up to live the lives that they dream of.
“We are going to govern for all New Zealanders; we are going to bring New Zealand together”.
Prior to the election his party and their possible coalition partners, Act and New Zealand First all spoke against the division of NZ on the basis of race and his party promised to repeal the Three Waters legislation as soon as possible after taking office.
He also declared that his party did not see a role for co-governance in Central Government but there has been no real mention of the current situation where we have parts of NZ controlled by co-governance rules where there are appointed Maori representatives on local bodies and local body committees who are not subject to any election oversight by the local ratepayers.
If he is truly intending to govern for all New Zealanders and bring New Zealand together again then I applaud him for reinstating our democratic systems of government.
A huge part of the push by Labour and the Maori Caucus, for the legislative and constitutional changes that they made was claimed to be a requirement of the Treaty of Waitangi which formed a partnership between the Crown and Maori and as such required co-governance to implement.
The Treaty of Waitangi only has three articles and nowhere in those articles does it mention either Partnership or Co-Governance.
A claim of a Co-Governance Partnership between the Crown and Maori under the Treaty of Waitangi was nothing more than a Lie; a dangerous, divisive attempt to gain advantage based on race, which would end in the destruction of democracy in New Zealand.
Up until the Labour government came into power in 2017 NZ had one of the oldest democracy’s in the world with the adoption of universal suffrage in 1893 and the changes that Labour made by going to race based co-governance systems did more harm to NZ than any other government in history through dividing the population on ethnic identity and breaking down the trust in our democratic systems of government.
Mr Luxon and his new government needs to clearly understand that there is no place in NZ at any level of either Central or Local Government for any type of race based systems of government and that this government will be held to account for ensuring that their policies do in fact bring NZ back together again as the Prime Minister elect stated in his speech.
With the failure of the mainstream media to question the Labour government decisions the essential character of New Zealand was being transformed from a country that was doing well by world standards, to a deeply divided society that was in decline due to systemic institutionalised racism introduced by the now defeated Labour government.
New Zealand is at a crossroads:
Do we carry on as a democratic nation where all citizens are considered equal no matter what race or creed with an equal right to participate in government of the nation or do we follow the direction that was taken by the Labour government, where we had a divided society where a small race based minority had a hugely increased power of decision making and setting the future direction for New Zealand.
The media failed to hold the government to account for its decision making as would be expected of independent media outlets.
The mainstream media organisations in New Zealand claimed to be providing “truthful, independent and trusted journalism” but in true fact what they were providing was Government owned journalism.
And as Labour found out in the end the problem with that situation is that often you are getting what the propaganda organisation thinks you want to hear rather than actually getting the truth, hence the huge difference between what the media polls were telling them and the reality of the election defeat.
If our new government under Chris Luxon’s leadership is truly dedicated to bringing down the cost of living, restoring law and order, delivering better healthcare and educating our children so they can grow up to live the lives that they dream of then they will first need to address all of the issues around co-governance and race based preferences at all levels of government.
Until they can ensure equality for all citizens of NZ regardless of colour creed or gender, they will never be able to ensure a stable system of government or a reliable economic platform that is required to achieve those changes they are aiming for.
The vote for change should be seen as a new beginning which starts by ridding us of the race based legislation introduced under the now defeated Labour government and bringing all NZ’s back together with equal rights regardless of colour, creed, or gender at all levels of governance.
