As reported by X political commentator Suit and Tie, a search of Parliament’s written questions database shows that MPs Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke and Takuta Ferris do not appear at all, meaning neither has submitted a single written parliamentary question since entering Parliament more than two years ago.
For the record, Oriini Kaipara is also missing from the list, although she was elected more recently. Mariameno Kapa-Kingi appears to have submitted five written questions on a single day in May this year, along with a small number last September. Beyond that, her record is sparse.
Parliamentary questions exist to test ministers, surface information, and represent voters’ concerns on the public record. They are a core mechanism for forcing ministers to disclose information and account for decisions.
When MPs do not use them, accountability weakens.
Suit and Tie notes that while parliamentary engagement appears limited, all three MPs maintain a strong presence on social media.
