U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters last night, speaking on Air Force One, that he doesn’t believe that the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod actually happened. Trump told reporters on Jan. 4, en route to Washington, D.C. from Florida: “I don’t believe that strike happened. There is something that happened fairly nearby, but had nothing to do with this.”
When media asked why he had previously condemned Kiev, Trump replied, “I mean that was the first I heard about it,” referring to his Dec. 29 phone discussion with Putin hours after the strike happened. “We don’t believe that happened as you know, now that we’ve been able to check; but that was the first we ever heard about it. We just hope that Russia and Ukraine get it settled.”
