What is the Waikato Wellbeing Project?

Online it says: ‘The Waikato Wellbeing Project is a regional initiative aimed at achieving a more environmentally sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive Waikato region by 2030 and beyond.

While I couldn’t find specific information about the project’s support for the Climate Commons, it has been actively contributing to SDG 13 Climate Action. The project has co-sponsored events like the Waikato Climathon to promote positive action in addressing climate change.

By collaborating with organizations such as Trust Waikato, Hamilton City Council, and the University of Waikato, the Waikato Wellbeing Project is making strides towards a more sustainable future. SEE THE UN AND WEF LOGO.

The Waikato Wellbeing Project is a regional initiative aimed at achieving a more environmentally sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive Waikato region by 2030 and beyond1.

It is a community-led initiative that aims to develop a defined set of SMART wellbeing targets for the Waikato, based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)2. The project is led by the Waikato Plan leadership committee, Wel Energy Trust, and Waikato Regional Council.

The project’s vision is to ensure that the future generations of the Waikato region thrive.

The ten wellbeing targets are the region’s first set of wellbeing targets to end poverty, fight inequality and act on climate change.

The targets are based on the 17, United National Sustainable Development Goals, but have been adapted to meet the unique challenges facing the Waikato region.

The Waikato Wellbeing Project has identified ten wellbeing targets that are believed to be most likely to lead to an environmentally sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive Waikato region by 2030 and beyond. These targets are as follows:

1. Poutoko: Lead, Facilitate, and Fund Impact Projects.

2. Te Ara Poutama: Waikato Wellbeing Knowledge Initiative.

3. He pakipūmeka: Lots of Little Fires.

4. Waha: Use Our Voice to Advocate for Positive Change.

5. Waikato: Support the Waikato Plan and Waikato Spatial Plan.

6. Catalysing the Waikato Wellbeing Movement.

Don’t be fooled by the ‘fluffy’ propaganda about the WWP. The Waikato Wellbeing Project (WWP) is the UN Agenda 2030 goals which are administered by the Waikato Regional Council. The WWP has the Sustainable Development Goals as its blueprint and is also part of the Smart City agenda.

How is it Funded? An official information act was done about funding:

In 2020 the WEL energy Trust approved $3 million over 5 years for the WWP, via finding to Waikato Regional Council (who administers the WWP), there is certain criteria to be met before each trance is paid, and up to date $1.8M has been granted. Grants as follows:

· FY20/21 - $1,000000

· FY21/22 - $800,000

· FY22/23 - $500,000

· FY23/24 - $ 400,000

· FY24/25 - $300,000

The CEO Harvey Brookes refused any requests for information on what staff are paid or any other income. Some funding comes from Philanthropic sources such as G and M Gallagher Trust and Waikato Regional Council also make contributions via funding and in-kind support.

I did an OIA to the Waikato Wellbeing Project. They refused to answer how much the salaries were. I am still awaiting that information. Its currently with the Ombudsman. Ratepayers and taxpayers have a right to know how much is being spent on these communist run organisations.
