Javier Milei’s Davos address on ‘wokeism’ liberty and ’the quest for privileges’

  • elocal magazine By elocal magazine

Argentina’s President Javier Milei delivered a spirited speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, proclaiming the rise of liberty and condemning “wokeism” as a societal cancer.

Milei credited Argentina’s remarkable economic turnaround—zero deficit, inflation control, and renewed growth—to a radical embrace of free-market principles.

He positioned Argentina as a global model for freedom, citing allies such as entrepreneur Elon Musk, Italian president Giorgia Meloni, and US president Donald Trump in his fight against collectivism.

Milei warned of the dangers of ideological capture, stating, “Wokeism has colonised the world’s most important institutions,” including governments, media, and universities.

He criticised movements such as radical feminism and environmentalism for distorting noble ideals to expand state control. “Equality before the law already exists in the West. Everything else is a quest for privileges,” he asserted.

However, “Equality before the law is not enough. Hidden systemic injustices exist, which must be rectified, is an idea that serves as a gold mine for bureaucrats who aspire to omnipotence,” he said.

In closing, Milei called for a libertarian revival to counteract what he sees as a descent into societal decay, urging the West to embrace freedom and reject collectivist dogma. “Let us make the West great again,” he proclaimed, ending with a cry: “Long live freedom, dammit!”
